# 08b | Sashing without Cornerstones

## <mark style="color:blue;">Module 08b | Sashing without Cornerstones</mark>

Building off of sub-module 08a, we'll learn how to remove the cornerstones from our sashing in this sub-module. The result will be individual pieces of vertical sashing between blocks and one long piece of horizontal sashing between rows of blocks.

### One Long Horizontal Sashing Piece (No Cornerstones)

To remove the cornerstones from your sashing to make one long piece of sashing:

1. On the quilt grid, highlight an entire row of blocks by <mark style="color:blue;">**clicking on the number to the left of the row**</mark>. In this example, I've selected column <mark style="color:blue;">**2**</mark>.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/S39Cwu4eh4swSHJ1IKe8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
2. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Merge button**</mark> (![](/files/m0ruRZmn5r7MhmmHwyXG)) on the central, vertical toolbar.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/9t3c8NncoPvUv8smSCVo" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. You will see now one long empty block cell that would be our horizontal sashing.

4. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Add to Quilt button**</mark> for the **Fabric Link A** One Patch Block.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/qFpQCXLPqC6dcjhxFzOh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
5. You will now see that Fabric Link A is now our horizontal sashing for row 2.

### Copying & Pasting Sashing

Again, there's no need to repeat all those steps over and over. Copy and paste instead!

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**single long piece of horizontal sashing**</mark> in row 2 to select it.

   <figure><img src="/files/5nzFVajf6XdBArPT58vD" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
2. You can either use the <mark style="color:blue;">**Copy/Paste button**</mark> ()(like in Module 08a) from the central vertical toolbar - **OR** - you can <mark style="color:blue;">**right click**</mark> on the block and select <mark style="color:blue;">**Copy**</mark>.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/1SlwIdWHUT0NqC3tyxb5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**first sashing block cell in row 4**</mark>.

   <figure><img src="/files/BH72Zfaowh8h8bketZuc" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
4. <mark style="color:blue;">**Right click**</mark> on the block and select <mark style="color:blue;">**Paste**</mark>.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/tVzbQFrPekepEuaZANz3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
5. Repeat <mark style="color:blue;">**steps 3-4**</mark> for rows 6, 8 and 10.
6. You will now see all horizontal sashing are long strips and there are no more cornerstones.
