c | Add new blocks to quilt

Exercise 05c

05c | Create custom Kaleidoscope quilt using the new block variations.

Objective | To bulk select and bulk replace blocks on the digital design wall. To understand how to replace and add one off blocks while keeping all the rest.

Did You Know | You don't need to switch out and replace all blocks. You can cherry pick and create multiple blocks to switch out and replace to create a truly unique Kaleidoscope quilt.

01 | Bulk Replacing All Occurrences of a Block

It's easy to replace all of one block with all of another through bulk selection.

  1. On the digital design wall, click on one of the blocks you want to remove. In this example, I'm going to click on one of the Kaleidoscope B blocks.

    • TIP: When you click on a block on the digital design wall, the name of the block will appear at the top of the Quilt Editor window.

  2. Right click on the block. A dropdown menu will appear. Then choose Select = Blocks.

  3. Every occurrence of that block will be highlighted (outlined in blue) on digital design wall.

  4. To replace these selected blocks, click on the Add to Quilt button next to to the block we want to add. In this example, that is our new Kaleidoscope B (2) block.

  5. Now all the original Kaleidoscope B blocks have been replaced by the new Kaleidoscope B (2) block.

  6. To deselect the blocks, click anywhere outside the digital design wall area.

02 | Replacing Specific Occurrences of a Block

Another option is to only replace single occurrences of a block. This will keep both the original block and the new variation in the quilt design.

  1. On the digital design wall, click on the block you want to remove. In this example, I'm going to click on one of the Kaleidoscope A blocks.

    • TIP: When you click on a block on the digital design wall, the name of the block will appear at the top of the Quilt Editor window.

  2. To replace the selected block, click on the Add to Quilt button next to the block we want to add. In this example, that is our new Kaleidoscope A (2) block.

  3. Now this original Kaleidoscope A block has been replaced by the new Kaleidoscope A (2) block.

  4. To deselect the blocks, click anywhere outside the digital design wall area.
