# 04e | Use the Color Randomizer

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:blue;">**PRO TIP:**</mark> Think outside the box and select a custom Fabric Pull when using the Color Randomizer feature in PreQuilt (instead of a manufacturer's color card).

## <mark style="color:blue;">Module 04e | How to Use the Color Randomizer Feature</mark>

In this sub-module, you'll learn how to use the Color Randomizer feature in PreQuilt to be able to find surprising color combinations. This feature for when you don't know exactly what fabrics you'd like to use and can often be used as a starting point for your color play.

You can either use the defaulted Kona color card to randomly select fabrics OR you can use another solid fabric manufacturer or a custom fabric pull to randomize from. The custom fabric pull is a great way to limit your options to a specific fabric pull or your physical fabric stash.

To learn more about randomly using your Fabric Stash, check out our [Blog article, *Use Your Stash*](https://blog.prequilt.com/blog-posts/2024/january-2024-or-use-your-stash).&#x20;

If the Color Randomizer isn't working, it's because you are not using any Fabric Links in your quilt.

### a | Use the PreQuilt Color Randomizer

When you use the Color Randomizer, it is always defaulted to the Kona color card.

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Randomize**</mark> <mark style="color:blue;">**button**</mark> (![](/files/GE2yEj2mcdZAZ66poPqY)) from the central vertical control panel.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/SLviyK0TI2rkxlgEBOV0" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
2. Once you click on the Randomize button, you will notice that your fabric links have all be randomly assigned a different Kona solid fabric.

3. As you find fabrics that you like, you can click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Lock button**</mark> (<img src="/files/7Q5OvweiKMwEur1hYKlO" alt="" data-size="line">) so that they will no longer randomize (*optional*).

   <div><figure><img src="/files/KO1GA4Jh2vDOrzlvAJ4n" alt=""><figcaption><p>Fabric Link C locked</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/MnWbZI0o7QpJSXGWNGCl" alt=""><figcaption><p>Fabric Link C was not Randomized</p></figcaption></figure></div>
4. Continue <mark style="color:blue;">**clicking the Randomize button**</mark> until you have found a color combination that you like.

### b | Use a Specific Fabric Library with the Color Randomizer

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:blue;">**PRO TIP:**</mark> Think outside the box and select a custom Fabric Pull when using the Color Randomizer feature in PreQuilt.
{% endhint %}

To control what fabric manufacturer or fabric pull being used:

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**RANDOMIZE tab**</mark> on the left side control panel.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/vAPAJNPo0XYm6fklXN9X" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
2. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Three Dots button**</mark> (<img src="/files/NkaRnZMupE3NXhrQg9G5" alt="" data-size="line">) to the right of the Randomize Colors button.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/bwlcodTRl2fmSOjNaYOl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
3. From the dropdown, click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Randomize using your Fabric Pull**</mark> option.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/JqoWykmBPOkhzsHWTXh5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
4. Click on the Select button for whatever fabric manufacturer you'd like to have your fabrics randomly selected from. In this example, I'll select Andover.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/pWqxuJjQade4q0csEO4N" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
5. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**Randomize**</mark> <mark style="color:blue;">**button**</mark> (![](/files/GE2yEj2mcdZAZ66poPqY)) from the central vertical control panel.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/sr1vJXjpe0razvS9QFw9" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
6. You will now see that the locked Fabric Link C remains Kona Candy Pink, but the other two Fabric Links (A & B) have now been randomly assigned Andover solid fabrics.
