## <mark style="color:blue;">Module 02a | About Reverse Engineering</mark>

Before we can get started building out a custom quilt block (in this case - a traditional quilt block, the Sawtooth Star), I'm going to introduce you to the concept of reverse engineering.

**Reverse engineering** is to examine the construction or composition of a quilt block in order to recreate a duplicate or similar quilt block.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Help Guide</mark>

In preparation for reverse engineering a block (like the Sawtooth Star):

1. Breakdown the block into a grid.

2. Analyze the block and break it down into its components.

   * There are 4 small white squares, 4 flying geese, and 1 large black square.

With is knowledge, we can now recreate the block in PreQuilt.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://courses.prequilt.com/youtube-courses/intro-to-prequilt-course/02-or-custom-quilt-blocks/02a-or-reverse-engineering.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
