# 04 | Manage fabric links

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:blue;">**Fabric Link:**</mark> A Fabric Link (formerly called *Color Tag*) is used to connect a particular fabric swatch to a particular quilt block piece.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %} <mark style="color:orange;">**ALERT:**</mark> When the fabric being used by a *fabric link* is changed (either from a solid to another solid - or from a solid to a printed fabric swatch), all quilt components that is using that Fabric Link will also change.
{% endhint %}

## <mark style="color:blue;">Exercise 04</mark>

**04** | *Create 2+ new fabric links.*

***Objective*** | To understand how to manage solid color options using *Fabric Links* in PreQuilt. You will also learn how to add additional fabric links and change fabric links.

***Did You Know*** | Each quilt has three default fabric links (A, B, and C). If your quilt requires more than 3 different fabrics or colors, you can easily add more. Also, the solid color cards for most major fabric manufacturers are preloaded in PreQuilt.

### <mark style="color:blue;">01 | Adding a Color Tag</mark>

1. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**FABRIC LINKS**</mark> tab on the [*<mark style="color:blue;">left side control panel</mark>*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/cs#left-side-control-panel).

### <mark style="color:blue;">02 | Changing a Fabric Link's Fabric</mark>

{% endhint %}

Since each new Fabric Link's fabric swatch will have the default color of *Kona Baby Pink*, you will most likely want to change this new Fabric Link

2. The Color Tag panel (also called [*Fabric Library Panel*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/fs#fabric-library-panel)) will slide in. Using the dropdown menu, <mark style="color:blue;">**click on your preferred solid fabric manufacturer**</mark>.&#x20;

   * In this example, I'll select my favorite, <mark style="color:blue;">**Paintbrush Studio**</mark>.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/CTS3yOlWVYg5Q4OPoEOH" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>Click on your preferred manufacturer to switch color cards</em></p></figcaption></figure></div>
3. Click on the <mark style="color:blue;">**swatch**</mark> for Color Tag D's new color.&#x20;

   * In this example, I'll select <mark style="color:blue;">**Bright Aqua**</mark>.

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/mDLD1iKSLwUUf7S1DYBN" alt=""><figcaption><p><em>Click on a color swatch to select it</em></p></figcaption></figure></div>
4. After clicking on the swatch, the panel will close and you will now see the new solid color swatch for Fabric Link D.
