Sometimes you'll want a border that is not uniform - maybe you'll want to use different fabrics or have the top border a different width than the bottom border. Maybe you don't even want side borders...
To create a varied quilt border, you'll need to make it using rows and columns, which you'll learn in this sub-module.
Click on the number 1 on the first row. A little OPTS button will appear to the left the selected row. Click on the OPTS button and select Insert Before from the dropdown menu.
Click on the OPTS button and select Resize from the dropdown menu.
Enter the number for the height you'd like the top border to be in the Resize Row box and then press the OK button.
Repeat steps 1-3 for the bottom border.
You will now see a row of blocks that are the same pattern and width as the other rows in your quilt. The. only difference is that this row is not the same height as the other rows. It is 4" high.
Click on the border block cell and add the One Patch Block of your choice. In this example, I used the same Fabric Link as the background fabric.
Repeat steps 6-7 for the bottom border.
You will now see a solid border at the top and bottom of the quilt. But not on the sides.
It's the same process to add a border to just the left or right side of the quilt as it is to add a border to just the top or bottom of a quilt. Keep in mind you'll be adding extra columns instead of extra rows.
Select all the block cells in row 1 and then click on the Merge button () on the central vertical control panel to make one long border piece.
